No, I am not crazy enough to believe that there is still someone not familiar with Google translate. Honestly I use it quite frequently. But it was only a couple of days ago that I paid attention to the function “Upload a document”.
this makes me believe it is a rather new one. And it is certainly a function worthwhile mentioning.

Gave it some test rides: fast and smooth. Really impressive!

Babylon is giving away free licenses of its translation software to bloggers that are wiriting a short post on them (review of there free online service). I personally think this is a very fair deal. Description: “The Glossary has been conceived and produced as a modest working tool which, we hope, will assist communication between art librarians, at least by helping to prevent misunderstandings. It can also be seen as a symbol – a symbol of our ideals and aspirations, but also as a symbol of the ways in which ideals have to be modified in practice.”

Beside the old fashion format of the website (either use “search and find” or navigate by links from the word list) this glossary is a very laudable initiative of the IFLA [International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions] and its Section of Art Libraries. It is a good example of an international cooperation and how a group of professionals are building their own jargon.

The glossary offers both, a definition of the term in English and translation of the terms into the above mentioned languages.

As a work in progress you are strongly urged to send comments, corrections and suggestions or to contribute your language skills to the further development of the glossary (Please see form and email at the end of the glossary’s website)

Example term: PHASE CONSERVATION – Planned sequential stages in conservation treatment when the entire prescribed treatment cannot be completed in the short term.

My Blog Trio is too much to handle at the moment. So the development of Translation Net will be a bit slowlier. Sorry. But quality comes before quantity.

About the notes on “Use it for Babylon”

This is an idea that came to my mind when working on Dictionary Net. Looking for ways to make my post as interesting and valuable as possible to you I introduced a “Use it on Babylon” feature, that tells you that the dictionary under discussion is also available on the Babylon Software. Babylon is a very nice commercial program that I am using now for years, and mainly there enormous number of dictionaries always were of great benefit to me. I don’t intent to make here more promotion of this software. If you want to learn more, please visit Babylon Translation.

So how does it work? When you see this image

I will give you:

1.) a Dictionary Download link of the dictionary to be installed on the Babylon client. So this is for fellow Babylon Users.

2.) an Online Dictionary link to the online lookup of this dictionary on the Babylon website.

I have to say that this is a bit time consuming, so I would be happy to get feedback on this feature.
